WIP: Chasing Storms

Swallowing the last of her coffee, she looks out the open window towards a massive shape swirling in the distance, moving slowly across the horizon. As the sirens begin to wail, she re-reads the message, its implications making it clear she needs to act quickly.

Salvation’s Curse (The Protector)

Watching the screens on the panel flicker to life, I saw two teams of heavily armed figures burst through both the front and back doors. Finding my father but not us, they began systematically searching the house.

As Dr. Morrisey worked the panel trying to keep up with the assault teams, all I could do was stare at the one screen focused on the room where in the space of an instant, I’d lost everything.

Whatever Remains (What Now?)

Horace stopped in the doorway, stunned at what he saw: Tom lying beneath one overweight, pissed off, and completely naked Hank Daniels. If it weren’t for the fact that Tom was already dead, the sheer force of the blows he was receiving would’ve been enough to do him in – again.

Whatever Remains (Annie)

In unison, they both leapt from the bed and raced toward the viewing room situated at the back of the funeral home. Horace silently cursed himself for not getting to the point sooner with Anne. He knew that once they reached the room, all hell would break loose. But considering the sounds of yelling and scuffling, it sounded like it already had.

Whatever Remains (Bad Timing)

“Good. Well then, looks like we have a few hours before they wake. You hungry? I’m starved.”

As Horace headed out to the kitchen, he switched on the radio. As the dulcet tones of Bing Crosby crooned across the room, Horace suddenly turned and looked at Tom concerned.

“You aren’t, uhm, having any cravings are you?”

Tom could only stare in wonderment at his friend. What the hell is he getting at now?

Whatever Remains (The First)

He raised his arms slowly until they felt resistance. Feeling the solidness of the wood he wondered if he had the strength, physically and emotionally to push against it and free himself.

A relieved sigh echoed about the coffin as the lid slowly rose and shed light on Tom’s worst nightmare.
