The phone ringing sort of brought me back to the present. Blinking, I wondered how long I’d been sitting there staring at the wanted poster in front of me without even seeing it. The office door opened, and a familiar, entirely unwelcome scent flowed towards me.

Three years ago…
I gave out a yelp of pain as his fist smashed into my face. Dude packed a decent punch, I had to say. I dropped, since that was probably what he meant the punch to cause. I caught another thump on the temple as I went down. Not quite enough to daze me, but I let him think it did. Man, I thought to myself as he yanked my arms behind my back and cuffed me, Maureen’s going to be pissed at me in the morning.
The Hunt
This was the first appearance of Connie, who turned out to be a vampire hunting Librarian (with help from Kate and Damian!).

There’s power in his movements, but it doesn’t occur to me to be afraid as he approaches me, holds his hand out in offer. I take it, gazing at his handsome face, the dark eyes that smile quietly at me. The club is crowded, yet we may as well be all alone as he leads me out to the dance floor. I’ve never danced like this, so sensually, with so much body contact. His hands search the bared skin of my lower back, caressing lightly as we move together.
Precious Illusions
A short which, according to Damian, is quite a journey away from the opening office romance.

“You’re doing very well,” Kiane whispers to Tell, smiling at him. She didn’t add any of the obvious remarks others might have made. She wasn’t like the others, Tell knew. He’d known it the day they’d met when she’d smilingly offered her hand to him as she greeted him.
“It’s all due to you,” he replies quietly, dark eyes meeting her light ones squarely. She shakes her head slightly, a familiar gesture to him now after months of working together.
“You’re the one that’s done all the hard work, Tell. And you have done it.” Her hand touches his forearm briefly. “You deserve all the credit.”
